The Legalization of Cannabis in Oklahoma

The Governor signed HB 2154 in April 2015, which allows the Sale of CBD oil but with less than 0.3% THC(Tetrahydrocannabinol). Later in 2015, the state announced that they were adding to legalize the medical use of marijuana on the 2016 ballot. But somehow, this did not go in the way it was supposed to.

Backers alleged that Attorney General Scott Pruitt had misled the statements. After the Oklahoman’s board of Health sued over the ballot rewrite, the Oklahoma Supreme Court ordered the original statement be restored. As a result, the vote for the initiative was pushed back to 2018. Governor Mary Fallin established a ballot date of June 26, 2018, as a poll initiative.

The poll passed and made Oklahoma the 30th U.S. state to legalize the medical use of marijuana or cannabis. By august 2018 the state authorities decided to start the distribution of licenses for medical marijuana. However, on July 10, 2018, the Oklahoma Board of Health decided to ban the offering of smokable marijuana at dispensaries.

Under the state Board of Health, the state created OMMA (Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority) to regulate licenses for growers and patients. It appointed Adrienne Rollins as its first director on October 4, 2018.

The instant after the appointment of Adrienne Rollins, the city adopted the “simple possession” and lowered the maximum fine for possession of marijuana.
